While speaking at a conference for foster youth in 2009, April could not stop seeing the faces of students in the audience. As a result, Lydia’s Place, a ministry serving young adults who have experienced foster care or homelessness was born. Built on Christian principles, Lydia’s Place seeks to demonstrate God’s love by providing basic needs during the transition to independent living. Since 2017, Lydia’s Place has served over 1,000 students on more than 20 college campuses around the state of Georgia. Acts 16:15, one of the only times Lydia is referenced in the bible, states “If you believe me to be a follower of Jesus Christ, come into my house and stay.” A cornerstone of Lydia’s Place is to provide housing and through partnerships with local non-profits the organization has opened 20 bedrooms to care for young adults in need on an on-going basis.
